Some tips to extend the battery life of the iPhone 12
1. Install the Latest iOS 14 Update
Some battery issues may be due to software faults that occurred in the production at Apple Inc. The best thing is, Apple company releases bug fixes often via a firmware update. Follow the below mentioned few steps to update.
- Go to the Settings menu
- Open General
- Then go to the Software Update section
- Click on Download the latest iOS firmware.
2. Disable Background App Refresh
Most of the smartphones nowadays support multi-tasking. So it lets the apps run in the background. Apple has included many techniques and optimizations to reduce the battery consumption of these background apps. But apps which are not developed well may cause fast draining of your iPhone’s battery.
To disable these Background App Refreshings follow the below-mentioned steps,
- Go to Settings > General
- Then go to the BackgroundApp Refresh section
- Now turn it off for apps like Facebook, Messenger, and other apps that don’t need frequent refreshing.
Background App Refresh is useful for apps like backup apps like OneDrive or Google Photos. There you may need to upload photos/videos in the background. But apps like Facebook are so popular as Battery Draining apps. So the best thing is to turn BackgroundApp Refresh Off for such apps.
If you need it strongly you may use the option to enable Background App Refresh Only when you are connected to a Wi-Fi Network. It will also save your mobile data as well as the battery life.
3. Enable 5G Auto
The latest iPhone 12 series supports 5G connectivity. As we all know the battery consumption is a bit higher when it’s 5G. Apple has designed the default settings for 5G connectivity in a well-optimized manner for a long battery life. However, if you are experiencing an unusual battery drain then check whether your iPhone’s setting is set to 5G auto.
You can enable 5G Auto by going to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data and choosing the options you want to change. Make sure you switch to 5G Auto which will enable smart data mode. There when 5G speeds don’t provide a better experience, it will automatically switch to LTE to save your battery life.
4. Use Low Power Mode
Enabling this will reduce the smoothness of the device’s performance. But it will help you a lot to retain the power when the device is running low on battery. You can enable the Low Power mode by going to Settings > Battery and then tapping on the toggle.
Low Power Mode will temporarily reduce the power consumption by turning off or reducing mail fetch, automatic downloads, background app refreshes, and some visual effects. Apple says that the Low Power Mode is capable of improving battery life by extra 3 hours.
You will get a pop-up message to enable Low Power Mode when your battery level reaches 20%, and will automatically disable it when the battery level comes to 80%.
5. Disable Location Services or GPS
When we are installing apps, they request access to various things such as location, camera, etc., where we blindly say yes. However, apps using location services or GPS can affect battery life considerably. So you should make sure you have given access to the apps which really need it.
The best solution is to first tweak location services and GPS access for all the apps. Then open the Settings app and navigate to Privacy > Location Services. Here you can completely disable location services.
But I think the option “While using the App” will be better so that an app will use your device location only when you run the app. This can be used for apps such as App Store, which don’t need location services all the time.
Also, you should disable the Precise Location option. Don’t worry! If an app really needs to use location services, it will prompt you to allow access to Location Services when you open it.
None of the above worked? Then try these Troubleshooting Options
I.Optimized Battery Charging
All iPhone models consist of a lithium-ion battery. Lithium-ion batteries come with a fixed number of charge cycles. So the iPhone battery capacity degrades over time.
You should keep a record of your iPhone’s battery capacity percentage periodically. If it goes down to 60%-50% percentage, then it’s the right time to replace the battery to improve the general performance of the iOS.
You can reach the relevant settings by Opening Settings > Battery > Battery Health > Enable Optimised Battery Charging.
II.Hard Reset or Restore Your iPhone 12
If you couldn’t solve the issue through the above tips the best solution is to make it look like a brand new again. There is no harm in force restart or hard resetting your iPhone 12 in order to see if it helps solve the battery issue.
Before you erase all the data and settings, make sure to take a backup of your iPhone through iTunes or iCloud. Also take a backup of your important documents, photos, and videos using Dropbox or Google drive.
Follow the below steps to restore your iPhone
- Go to Settings > General
- Then select Reset
- Now click on “Erase All Content And Settings”
- Now set it up as you do when you buy a new iPhone (Don’t use earlier backups).
